Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2016
It’s that time of year again for the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Houston rodeo started back in 1932 at the Democratic Convention Center, now the Houston rodeo is held at NRG Park; the home of the Houston Texans. Over 2.4 million paid attendees in the 20 day span attended the Houston rodeo last year. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest livestock show and rodeo in the world.
To start the rodeo off, 13 different groups of trail riders that covers about 1,800 miles total, meet downtown at the NRG Park. Many of the trail riders include family member of all generations and ages. They also have a tradition of distributing scholarships to many local schools as well as going to schools to educate today’s youth about the history and rodeos and trail riders.
The rodeo offers many activities such as a carnival, championship bar-b-que cook off, shopping, and of course the concerts. The carnival has the largest portable Ferris wheel in the Western Hemisphere. You can also take a ride on the 1,700 foot gondola ride that takes 58 feet above NRG Park.
In the NRG Center you can find the “Agventure Area” and shopping. The Agventure area is where children of all ages can enjoy learning about all different types and animals. In Agventure you can witness live births, baby chickens hatching and of course the petting zoo. The shopping area has a wide range of vendors such as food, western wear, and crafts.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo concerts are the most anticipated event at the Houston rodeo. The concert dates start March 1st and ends March 20th. That being said here is your 2016 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo line up:
